Veins and Lymphatics https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl
Veins and Lymphatics is an international, Open Access peer-reviewed journal which publishes scientific papers about venous and lymphatic diseases. Open issues and debates about epidemiology, anatomy, pathophysiology, etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of vein and lymphatic diseases are constantly present in our project. A "transversal" vision of phlebology and lymphology is privileged, without preconception or barriers. Aiming at enhancing phlebolymphology culture diffusion worldwide, on a free access basis, Veins and Lymphatics wants to exploit internet capabilities for a large, quick and low-cost dissemination of educational and research inputs. Many specialties without one leading, are involved in this field of interest; we will try to encourage the clever connections between them for mutual advantage. A constant evolution has characterized Phlebology and Lymphology in the last decades so that “truisms” have been revised and criticized (see dogma of saphenectomy with junction high ligation). Novelties seem to come from different corners of the world, from doctors who are part of the scientific establishment, but also from those who have enough courage to break the conventional concepts. This journal will represent a medium for the rapid diffusion of these new ideas, on the basis of sound data and speculations. Nonetheless, “the new” advances whereas it is based on older fundaments, so we are not going to forget the strength of traditions and we will keep attention on the past acquisitions, to gain experience and impulse or, why not, to learn from others’ and our errors.

Veins and Lymphatics publishes original articles, editorials, reviews, short reports and case reports, as well as invited commentaries.

en-US
PAGEPress has chosen to apply the Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) to all manuscripts to be published.
laura.bergamaschi@pagepress.org (Laura Bergamaschi) tiziano.taccini@pagepress.org (Tiziano Taccini) Thu, 25 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 OJS 3.3.0.13 http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss 60 Frank Cockett and the story of the ancient anatomical wax model of the left iliac vein compression https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12680
In 1988, Professor Donini organized an international phlebo-lymphology meeting at the University of Ferrara in Italy. At that time, I was a young surgical resident with the task of picking up Professor Frank Cockett at the railway station. I recognized him immediately, introduced myself and, together, we crossed the station square to my car.
I asked him where he wanted to be taken, and he asked me to go to the anatomical museum of the University. We arrived just before the closure time, and Mister Cockett was intrigued and enthusiastic about an anatomical wax specimen.
Paolo Zamboni Copyright (c) 2024 the Author(s) http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12680 Tue, 28 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 An original technique for the treatment of Axillary Web Syndrome: the Onorato-Ausbergher method https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12501
Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS) is a common complication in patients who have undergone an axillary lymph node biopsy or dissection for breast cancer. This work aims to explore in a preliminary way the effectiveness of a therapeutic approach with Neuromuscular Taping (NMT) for the aforementioned condition. Specifically, five patients have been treated and have undergone specific evaluation of typical AWS signs and symptoms, with a particular focus on the impact on Quality of Life (QoL) and Activities of Daily Life (ADLs). The final aim is to evaluate the efficacy of an innovative approach to AWS, allowing easy application, good tolerability, and few collateral effects.
Alberto Onorato, Stefania Ausbergher, Elisa Dorigo Copyright (c) 2024 the Author(s) http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12501 Wed, 26 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Lymphedema and Paget’s disease: beyond the nipple https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12352
Lymphedema praecox is a rare lymphatic vascular anomaly diagnosed before the age of 35, presenting with unilateral involvement of the lower extremities. Paget's disease of bone (PDB) is also a rare osteometabolic disorder characterized by an accelerated rate of bone remodeling, and diagnosis of the disease is challenging. Here, we report a 49-year-old woman with primary lymphedema since the age of 33, who presented with pain and swelling in her right leg. Although the volume of the extremity diminished after complete decongestive therapy, the pain continued. Further evaluation with X-ray, bone scan, and biochemical markers supported the diagnosis of PDB. Following the zoledronic acid infusion, the pain score improved. However, there is no published association between these two diseases. Both lymphedema and PDB are associated with vascular disease and have a genetic background. This is the first case reporting the coexistence of lymphedema and PDB in the same extremity.
Sansin Tuzun, Aslinur Keles, Narmin Ahmadli Copyright (c) 2024 the Author(s) http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 https://www.pagepressjournals.org/vl/article/view/12352 Fri, 05 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0000
