The surveillance methods adopted in different settings can be significantly different and, therefore, no reference can be made to a single set of standards. This paper outlines the main features of analysis and reporting of antimicrobial resistance data according to the guidelines issued by the US Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, and the surveillance systems adopted in Europe. In this article the strengths and weaknesses of the various types of analyses will be discussed highlighting the critical aspects to be taken into account in surveillance data reporting.}, number={2}, journal={Microbiologia Medica}, author={Ambretti, Simone and Gagliotti, Carlo and Luzzaro, Francesco and Malacarne, Paolo and Pan, Angelo and Pieretti, Barbara and Tascini, Carlo and Sarti, Mario and CoSIAS-AMCLI, Comitato}, year={2015}, month={Dec.} }
