The Bassi Foundation executed a testamentary disposition of Glauco Bassi to leave his library to the Italian scholar who had pursued more successfully a line of research on the defensive adaptations of the venous system in the human being. So the Bassi book fund was left to Paolo Zamboni, who in turn donated it to the Library of the Health Sciences of the University Hospital of Ferrara, constituting a Scientific Committee and becoming the President. This year we celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Italian phlebologist Glauco Bassi, who played a principal role in the development of phlebology as a discipline, as well as in the Foundation of the Union Internationale de Phlebologie (UIP). Moreover, Bassi is not only a founding father of phlebology, but he represents an inspiring model for a medical teaching and practice centered on the doctor-patient relationship. The Bassi Library now lives at the Cona Hospital and is daily attended by students, residents, PhD, and people interested in phlebology as well.
